Crashing Thru Life’s Road Blocks

Rainbow over the farm.

This is a redo of a blog post I wrote many years ago, a time when I was living in a fantasy world, oblivious to the real-life RoadBlocks that awaited me. Now, I see these obstacles as messages to 'Take the detour.'  Let's revisit my past suggestions and see how they apply to my current journey. I encourage you to take a proactive approach to your challenges, just as I have.

Feeling stuck in the mud with no tow truck in sight can be incredibly frustrating and scary. But remember, you have the power to name and recognize these feelings. This act of recognition is not a sign of weakness, but a demonstration of your strength and control over your emotional journey. Once you've given them the consideration they deserve and allowed yourself to grieve, it's time to pause and ask yourself, 'What's Next?'

Grab a pen and paper as we look at how we can look at this detour with clearer and calmer eyes. This means approaching the situation with a clear mind and a calm heart, free from panic or anxiety. This perspective, one of peace and clarity, will be suggested, bringing a sense of reassurance and calmness to your journey.

Be Present

Connect to where you are right now.  Take the time to be mindful of what thoughts are running through your mind.  What you think about, you bring about.  A good skill to learn is to practice turning your negative thoughts into positive ones.

Try this:

Write 5 positive in your life.

Write 5 of your negative thoughts.  Now rewrite them into a more positive idea.

Ex.  Negative:  My business will never get off the ground.

Positive:    If I think about it, I have had 2 events and other people have stopped by.  That’s more than last year!

Remember:  Would you talk to your best friend the way your brain talks to you?

Be Grateful

We have heard 'be grateful' thousands of times from inspirational speakers, healers, and religious leaders, as well as all the quotes that show up in our Facebook newsfeed.  But do you sit back and look at everything beautiful in your life right now?  Are there people in your life who love and support you as you hit roadblocks?  Do you have food on your table? An animal you are lucky enough to be able to care for?  The ability to feel the wind and sun on your face?  Little or big, there is something to be grateful for in your life.   I challenge you to write 25 things that are in your life right now that you are grateful for.  Post this list somewhere you look at every day and add to it. This practice of gratitude will make you feel appreciative and content.

Rewrite Your Goals

This may be the time to rewrite and redevelop some of your goals.  This doesn't mean you can't still achieve a goal; just look at some Outside of the Box ways to work on it.  If your goal is to get in better shape and walking is the only thing you know to do.  How about trying biking, hiking, canoeing, or rollerblading instead?  If you love to garden but can't physically weed anymore, but you are fabulous at planning and creating beautiful gardens, do that instead.  Be a creative soul and make the achievement as fun and inspiring as it can be!

Be of Service

By helping others, you help yourself.  When you put yourself in the service of others, you trick your brain into thinking about something else but your worries. Put your effort into a new task of making life better for a friend or stranger. Your actions will improve their lives more than you will ever know.  Just the act of helping can lighten your heart of the troubles you carry.

Take a moment and list 5 options of places you might like to volunteer or take your talents and create something for someone else.

None of this is rocket science, but I think it’s important to sit back and look at alternatives to creating the life you want.  Going through significant changes upset the whole balance of who we thought we were and who we want to be now. I have taken enormous action to redefine my life.  If I had not made the epic changes I have, I would not be as excited to see the morning arrive everyday as I am now.
